Description

This fern has dark green, glossy, leathery fronds between 2 and 3 feet (60 -100cm) long. The fronds are frequently used in flower arrangements and have an excellent vase life.

Leatherleaf ferns are also useful for landscaping as they make good ground cover when used in groups and can tolerate both shade and dappled shade.

The plant spreads by means of a rust red, creeping rhizome, eventually forming dense mats of lacy foliage. Leatherleaf Ferns are hardy to temperatures of around 25 °F (-4°C).
